Monochromatic
Analogous
Analogous (or adjacent colors) is a color scheme using one base color and two secondary colors placed symetrically around it on the color wheel. The base color is main, while the secondary colors should be used only for highlights and accents. It always looks very elegant and clear.
Complementary
Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel are considered to be complementary colors (example: red and green). The high contrast of complementary colors creates a vibrant look especially when used at full saturation.
Triadic
A triadic color scheme is comprised of three colors evenly spaced on the color wheel. The two most basic triadic palettes are the primary colors red, blue, and yellow and the secondary hues orange, purple, and green

REVIEWING PROCESS
COLOR GRADE SELECTION AND REVIEW
The first step of the color grading process is to set an overall look for the project. Clients are encouraged (but not required) to provide visual references or written instructions that convey the look and emotion they’d like to achieve. We choose a raw still frame from the video edit that provides a distinct range of colors. Next we provide a lookbook with at least 4 distinct looks applied to that still image. The client will choose the look they like the most and note any additional tweaks. From there we generate a first pass color grade on the entire edit. The work comes alive.
We upload the first pass for review on Frame io, a user friendly and robust video viewing application. Within Frame io clients have the ability to generate comments on each shot with timestamps added (see image below for reference). They also have the ability to highlight and circle specific areas of the frame using the apps drawing tool. Our system imports the timestamped comment information directly from frame IO into our working timeline to avoid miscommunication and increase response time.
Clients also have the option to interface with our artists in a real-time video format via FaceTime or Skype. This allows us to skip the delays and miscommunications often associated with long email conversations and discuss details with more nuance. Stay on the same page and save those keystrokes for that sci-fi novel you’ve always been wanting to write.
For those who prefer the ultra hands on approach, we utilize the Team-viewer application which provides remote access to our work machines. This feature can be used by those who are very new to the process to gain a better understanding of what’s going on technically. It’s also used by our most tech savvy collaborators to allow for maximum interaction. You can see all the bells and whistles up close and recommend the exact adjustments you’re looking for. If you’re interested in learning more please see the video below.
EDIT REVIEW
Our edit review process closely mirrors that of the color review. We upload the rough cut for review on Frame io, a user friendly video viewing application. Within Frame io clients have the ability to generate comments on individual frames or longer sequences with timestamps added (see image below for reference). We’re able to import the time-stamped comment information directly from frame IO into our edit timeline so the editor can see exactly what is being discussed.
Clients have the option to interface with our artists in a real-time video format via FaceTime or Skype. This allows us to skip the delays and miscommunications often associated with long email conversations and hold more in depth discussions. Of course, traditional phone conferencing is still an option if you’d rather not change out of that bathrobe, but really need to chat.
And again, for our most hands on clients who need full control of the process we do offer the Teamviewer application for remote machine access. If you ask nicely the editor will even let you access the timeline. See video for a brief demonstration.
